There is ski racing after high school!
Yes, there is ski racing beyond high school! While only a few exceptional juniors advance to post-grad club programs or the US Ski Team, for most high school graduates, college ski teams provide a great opportunity to continue competitive ski racing. In the United States, collegiate ski racing is organized under two main bodies: the NCAA and the USCSA. NCAA teams are varsity only, while the USCSA includes both NCAA and club teams that follow USCSA/Division II regulations.
The NCAA classifies its institutions into Divisions I, II, and III, with differences in recruiting, scholarships, and playing season rules across divisions. However, all NCAA skiing competitions are conducted at the same level and follow the same rules, with a single NCAA Skiing Championship for all divisions. Since qualifying criteria for NCAA varsity teams and scholarship availability can vary greatly, it's important to contact the schools you're interested in early. For more information on NCAA member schools, visit this NCAA resource. For Eastern NCAA information, go to EISA, and for Rocky Mountain and Far West NCAA skiing, visit RMISA.
The United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) serves as the governing body for collegiate ski racing, Nordic jumping, and snowboarding in the U.S. The USCSA offers competition and development opportunities for student-athletes in a team-based format, emphasizing team performance over individual scoring, unlike traditional world cup scoring. With over 170 colleges across the country and 4,500 athletes competing in more than 300 events annually, the USCSA provides a robust platform for collegiate competition. For more information about USCSA member schools, visit USCSA.
